U15 Age Group Laws
Variations and Additions to the Laws of the game for U15s
The main Law Variations that are applicable to playing at U15 level are:
Bigger Balls - Size 5 (full size Rugby ball is used)
Sin Bin - 6 minute temporary suspension for yellow card offence (sin bin)
Lineouts - Lifting is allowed (although remain uncontested)
Max mins per half - 30 mins
Max playing mins per day - 90 mins
Lifting in the lineout is now permitted, but is not mandatory; Andy and Tom will work with the forwards to ensure that those involved are confident and competent. The lineout is still uncontested (the team throwing in the ball must win), but this progression allows the opportunity to develop the skill of lifting in a competitive environment, without the pressure of opposing players contesting possession. It also provides a springboard for attacking play.
The contest for possession can start once the player who catches the ball has safely returned to the ground. The non-throwing team cannot contest possession whilst the ball is in the air.
