Seth
Seth was awarded the inaugural 'Peter Martin Award' for scoring 2 tries in a match against Bradford-on-Avon, never having scored a try before......ever.
Martin Johnston scored only 2 tries in 87 caps for England; so scoring 2 in the same game shows the incredible talent, strength and skill Corsham have in their 2nd row.
As well as attending a 50th Birthday party, Peter has spent a few days in Devon, enjoyed watching the 6 Nations, and also had a driving lesson.
Louie
Louie picked up the Peter Martin award following his 1st 'cap' for Corsham against the Purbeck Sharks. Louie's Mum also picked up the dirty shirts to take home and wash in what was a 'win-win' for the Nelson-Overy family.
Peter was able to help around the house and enjoyed eating out - little did Peter know that his situation was about to get worse... a lot worse...
...at the same time that Peter was forming a friendship with some Giant African Snails, he was being lulled into a false sense of security by the family dog.
With no warning, Peter was taken and viciously attacked.
Peter was brave and fought hard but sadly he was massively overpowered by the dog he once called his friend!
In the nick of time, Peter was rescued by Louie but his injuries were horrific. Peter suffered severe stuffing loss and a total rhinectomy.
Reconstructive surgery has been reasonably successful but without a nose, the prognosis is not good; we hope he will make it through to the end of the season.
Peter's father (Guy Martin) has been informed and has sent Peter his best wishes (Guy himself is still recuperating from losing a leg on the U13 tour to Devon)
An enquiry will be launched in due course to establish if Louie failed in his duty of care to protect Peter or in fact, he acted heroically with the rescue of Peter during the attack.
It is likely that any sentencing will be passed by Judge Dawe on 18th June (The Corsham U14 'Camp-Out').
Henry
Peter had asked for his privacy to be protected whilst he recovered from his attack. As such, his time with Henry remains a closely guarded secret. All we know is that he had a bacon sandwich for his farewell meal with the Lister family.
Charlie
Peter enjoys an Automotive themed Easter Break!
We all know that Peter Martin is a keen motoring enthusiast (as previous driving videos confirm) …..so when he came home with Charlie Dawe, he was intent on getting as much motoring action done as possible. Peter need not have worried as his Easter holiday coincided with the collection of a new car.
Peter was quick to check out key interior features of the new car, being impressed with the dual touch screens that dominated the driver’s cabin.
Following a brief orientation hand over from the dealer Peter set off on a run up the Fosse Way to petrol Head gathering place Caffeine and Machine…..
Peter’s arrival at this temple of motoring heaven created something of a stir as he proudly displayed his fully electric car, the Ioniq 5.
Despite the lack of an internal combustion engine the car was well received, and Peter spent several hours conducting an informal Q&A session with the assembled crowd, discussing advanced power trains, autonomous driving and disruptive technologies likely to impact on global supply chains before debunking many of the myths around the environmental impacts of battery technology.
It was a long but satisfying evening for Peter and as he gazed out of his bedroom window at the departing petrol heads he knew he’d won some hearts and minds.
Peter’s busy road trip schedule continued next day with a flying visit to the Gaydon Motoring Museum. One of Peter’s favourites, the museum plays host to many of the most significant cars and automotive memorabilia from the British Motor Industry. Peter never gets tired of gazing at Formula 1 engines and not least the Cosworth engine, a power unit that Peter himself was instrumental in designing, together with Bill Brown, Keith Duckworth, Mike Costin and Ben Rood…..although a complex legal agreement continues to exclude Peter from publicly being attributed with an engineering credit.
Following the whistle stop tour to Gaydon, Peter was off to old Friend Jamie Bamford’s Cotswold farm shop, Daylesford. Multimillionaire Jamie Bamford successfully built the JCB empire but when it came to opening a farm shop he turned to Peter for advice on all matters of a rural nature. Peter’s input resulted in the creation of what is considered by many to be the world’s finest farm shops.
By way of thanks Jamie Bamford has created ‘Peter’s Heart’ a dramatic, organic sculpture that expresses the affection in which the entire JCB family hold Peter.
Peter was also able to check out the EV charging points that Daylesford installed just days before, in preparation for his visit….
It certainly was a busy 24 hrs for Corsham RFC’s most famous Pine Martin……but one upon which he will reflect with affection.
Finn Jefferies
Peter had a very exciting week in London with the Jefferies family.
The first stop was to go to the top of a tall tower and enjoy the view across the city; taking in the Shard, St. Paul's Cathedral, and many other famous landmarks.
Having got his bearings Peter decided on a bit of culture and went to an art gallery. Peter generally hangs out with a lot of artists and was delighted to view one of his favorite paintings - a colorful array of dots by Damian Hirst.
Peter commented "The geometrically relentless spots presented a slightly menacing, as well as a dangerously attractive air. Their insistent brightness almost felt bad for me - A calming yet addictive experience"
Wise words from Peter.
The next stop was to take a look at Lewis Hamilton's old F1 car - we all know of Peter's love for 'life in the fast lane' and his enthusiasm for all things petrol will never wain.
Finally off for a bit of a climb on a bouldering wall. Pine martins are extremely agile and excellent climbers, helped by his long bushy tail for balance, large claws, and thick fur on the soles of his feet for grip, Peter was in his natural environment. Finn never really had a chance of beating Peter to the summit.
Archie Ludlow
Peter has been engrossed with the second series of 'Clarksons Farm' on Amazon Prime and binge-watched all 8 episodes in one sitting. He was therefore delighted with the winner of the award following victory at home to Walcott as he got to spend a week on 'Archies Farm'.
Peter was quick to make friends with all of the residents and particularly enjoyed the company of the friendly Friesians.
After a busy day on the farm, it was time for a jam with Archie on bass guitar. Peter is an experienced musician and cites his two main bass influences as Jack Bruce from the 60's supergroup 'Cream' and John Entwhistle from 'The Who'. He benefited hugely from the contrasting style and commented afterward that Archie was just much more 'alive' than his musical role models.
Following tea and cake with Alfie the farm cat. Peter headed back to his bovine buddies and started to prepare for a trip to the seaside (Bridport Away)
